Tomorrow is Mother's Day and this will be the 5th year that I have celebrated this day without my Mom. Mom passed away in January 2004. She did not live to see her youngest grandchild, my daughter. Mom loved spending time with her grandkids. She would have loved Laci.
As a kid, Mother's Day was a special day for me. Even though I was not a mother it was a special day to honor our Mom. It wasn't a commercialized holiday. We always spent it at home or we would go to Grandma's house. I always made sure I bought something for Mom to show her how thankful I was for everything she did and sacrificed for us 5 kids.
Now that I am a Mother, I understand how unimportant that material gift was. I don't need any gifts for mothers day. Being a mother is the greatest gift that God has blessed me with. I simply want to spend the day with my family. However, if one should feel the need to purchase me a gift, that would be ok too :-)
So tomorrow on Mother's Day I plan to spend the day with Jeff and Laci. We spent the day with Kinsey today. She got me a beautiful plant that I will plant out in the front landscaping. She will be spending Mother's Day with her Mom. We don't have any specific plans, I don't need them. I do know one specific thing we will be doing and that is making a trip to the cemetary to wish my Mother a Happy Mother's Day.
Although my Mom is no longer with us, I find it still very important to honor her on this day. I am who I am today because of her. She is the one I try to model my motherly ways after. Mom thank you so much for all you have given me. Every day I learn more and more how much you did for us kids and I appreciate you and love you so much. I think of you often and I miss you very much.
Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers out there!
